I wasn't familiar with the original before hearing this version; Echo & The Bunnymen, much loved though they are, have done little for me in anything I've heard of them. (They did do a bitching cover of Dylan's "It's All Over Now Baby Blue"...a possible future pick?) Pavement, on the other hand, are a longtime favorite. They didn't do many covers, and most of them were live and not particularly spectacular. This one, however, is brilliant; Pavement on a rare occasion of sounding really dark, and damn stunning at that. In my opinion, it surpasses the original by a long shot.
